Regina Islas
Mexican architect and photographer
She approaches photography as an act of presence, guided by the intuition that beauty and grace occur beyond our will, “the least we can do is try to be there,” as Annie Dillard writes.
Rooted in her architectural training, her gaze is shaped by composition, scale, and materiality, while extending into a more intuitive approach. She draws from Evgen Bavcar’s idea that the image originates in the imagination before becoming visible. In her work, this internal space is shaped by literature, where words activate images and atmospheres that later take form through photography.
In recent years, living in Baja California Sur has become central to her work. The region’s landscape informs an ongoing body of photographs presented as an ode to its beauty.
